Content of Course:
- The procedures to be followed in the preparations of the farrowing house
- The procedures to be followed in the preparations of the sows for the farrowing house
- The appropriate feeding practices to different stages of pig production
- Cleaning and the disinfecting of the pig house
- The observance of bio-security in the piggery
 
Capabilities: When completing this course you will be able to demonstrate a basic knowledge of:
  • preparing the farrowing house for farrowing
  • creep feeding, flush feeding and correct feeding practices.
  • the provision of potable water to the pigs
  • clean and disinfecting all pig housing facilities
  • bio-security practices carried out
  • handling of pigs, including the movement and restraint of pigs
  • communication skills to report observations
  • all equipment to be used in all practices carried out
